Here's the place to share with the SKMB your latest treasure(s) you've picked up at a thrift store or used book store!
This thread is for all and any books purchased from thrift/second-hand stores... any authors. Are posts not about Stephen King books removed?
....and I KNOW it was for the stories my dear friend....Just got home from my weekend in Seattle. Scored lots of treasures! Here they are:
1- 1st hardback of The Speed Queen by Stewart O'Nan- this is a book about a woman on death row who wants Stephen King to tell her story. She writes part of it herself and then records the rest on cassette tapes. O'Nan had to change the title as per King's lawyers. The woman constantly uses titles of Steve's books in her narrative. Anyone read this?
2- 1st hardback printing of The Great Train Robbery by Michael Crichton. Only had a 5th printing for my collection. This was the last one I needed!
3- 1st trade paperback of Blaze by you-know-who published by Hodder & Stoughton.
4- 1st trade paperback of The Bachman Books by him again.
5- 1st trade paperback of The Stephen King Companion by George Beahm. This is the updated edition which goes up to The Bazaar Of Bad Dreams.
6- September 1971 issue of Playboy. It has a rare never reprinted story The Most Powerful Tailor In The World by Michael Crichton.
7- November 1978 issue of Playboy. It also has a never reprinted story by Jeffrey Hudson (Michael Crichton).
I was very excited to find those Playboy issues!

I didn't know it was permissible to switch covers, good to know.
Well, a new Goodwill just opened today here in Spokane (we're up to 4 now) and I went for the grand opening and found an unread hardback 1st of The Whistler by John Grisham. The reason I'm quoting myself is because I stopped at the Value Village afterwards and found a later hardback printing of The Joy Luck Club with a beautiful dust jacket that I can put on the 1st printing that I bought yesterday. It's even in a Brodart cover! The Book Collector Gods smiled upon me today!!

There are a lot of used bookstores and many, many thrift stores in Seattle. I always go to the Goodwill on Dearborn- it's amazing! Biggest Goodwill on the west coast! With all your great finds in Spokane I may have to break down and visit Spokane!
Never heard of this book. I REALLY want to read it! Yes, I read The Speed Queen but wasn't impressed. (I enjoyed the King connections but the whole idea was too gimicky, imo). His later books improved by leaps and bounds.Just got home from my weekend in Seattle. Scored lots of treasures! Here they are:

The only other one I read was The Night Country which was good but I knew what the ending was going to turn out to be.Yes, I read The Speed Queen but wasn't impressed. (I enjoyed the King connections but the whole idea was too gimicky, imo). His later books improved by leaps and bounds.
Could have been a brain fart - you're on more than one message board, right?Thanks...I thought I made a post but when I looked it isn't here. It was probably either my internet or my browser. Both have been acting up on me.
