Sing - CGI feature with some excellent musical moments
Hacksaw Ridge - Very good war/anti-war movie, even more brutal and graphic than Saving Private Ryan
Lion - excellent story, good performances, but far too leisurely in execution
.....the actual battle of Hacksaw Ridge in microcosm was close quarters with heavy weapons, thousands of casualties and buckets of blood, thereby being an even bigger killing zone than Normandy.....

Been digging Woody Allen movies lately. Love that line in Manhattan: you don't think two women can raise a child? Woody--are you kidding? I barely survived ONE mother!

Heh heh heh.

Or that one in Sleeper: when I was a kid I asked my mother where babies came from. She thought I said 'rabies' and said a dog bite. When the lady down the street gave birth to twins I thought she'd been bitten by a Great Dane.

Rimshot!

Sleeper is really the only Woody Allen movie I ever liked. Cracked me up when I saw it the first time!!

"There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, 'Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.' The other one says, 'Yeah, I know; and such small portions.' Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly.”

A relationship, I think, is like a shark. You know? It has to constantly move forward or it dies. And I think what we got on our hands is a dead shark.

If you get the chance, try some of his nonfiction works; humorous romps of wit and nonsense that will have you wetting your pants. This one is my favorite.

If you're a fan of black humour and pretty much everything that will offend the sanctimonious PC crowd, give this a look. Plus, any film that professes a love for Glen Campbell is okay in my book.

(the preview contains bad language n' stuff)

Live by Night, another great understated effort by Ben Affleck. I don't understand why it didn't get better critical or box office reception. I love period films, and with it's underlying theme of immigrants carving their niche in America, I figured it would have resonated with the audience especially in light of what's happening right now.

From what I gather by reading posts here and seeing/hearing things elsewhere, Affleck is not generally highly regarded. People, for whatever reasons, just don't seem to like him much.

I wholeheartedly recommend this movie to everyone. I've never read any of the Bronte sisters' work, but I will now. I watched this a few nights ago, and am still haunted by it:
I have a hard time watching other adaptations of Jane Eyre other than my fondly remembered one with George C. Scott and
Susannah York. It's a great book too.
