I am going to start with a seventh grade teacher who changed my life. I lost touch with her after I graduated from college. Anyway long story short I had my children by the time I lost touch.
That is awesome! I think that is a wonderful place to start and you just KNOW this is going to mean so much to her. I went to tell my 6th grade teacher how much I appreciated her -- she never gave up on me making new friends. She was determined when I moved here that I was going to be included! She taught at the school my children eventually went to and I found out she died the year before my son started.
So yes, do it now. Tell her wonderful things before she isn't here to hear them.

If you do a fan mail address, it will get lost in the fluff. If you go through their publisher, publicist, agent, or attorney, you have a better chance of them getting the letter. When I sent Gary Busey his, I sent it to his attorney.

Monday night,I went to my normal strings and things class. we made greeting cards. Glueing, stamping, personalizing. Now I have the perfect card to send.
I got to John Irving through the person who schedules his speaking engagements - it was quite accidental, but she actually relayed my question to him (he was right there in the office!), and he gave me a long answer. I was so excited, and so unprepared, that I was nearly nauseous.
