I wouldn't classify Fight Club as horror at all, or even a thriller. I'd call it psychological drama, if there is such a thing. I'd be curious to read your impressions of it. It's an interesting film (I've not read the novel), with very good performances. And, you know...Meat Loaf.
Meat Loaf is in Fight Club? Or does the culinary dish of meatloaf figure prominently in getting the holy crap beat out of ya?

I agree DJ, it is one of the very best. There's some rough stuff in this one! Oh how I love the portmanteau films! And there's a mystery involving VOH I was slightly obsessed with for a bit. Thought you might be interested.

BLACK HOLE REVIEWS: VAULT OF HORROR (1973) - missing a few zombies

(edit!) Dana, I see that you've seen Burnt Offerings. What did you think? I saw it years ago & was not that impressed. But now somehow, I'm crazy about it. I think Karen Black's star began waning just after this. It seems like by the 80's she was no longer a name. And she was fantastic! Not just in this. Great cast all the way around. Oliver Reed was an interesting choice.
I will definitely check this out. I love this movie. With all its flaws, I love this movie.

13. The Funhouse Massacre (2015) ftv
A sheriff, a clueless deputy and a group of college kids spring into action when six escaped psychopaths unleash bloody mayhem at a Halloween Funhouse.
Oh I loved this one! Creepy setting in the funhouse, the escaped killers using that as a way to continue their work on unsuspecting customers. It was one of those movies that you expect to be over the top dumb...it was definitely over the top, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Robert Englund has a small role.

I heard this in a department store and knew I'd heard it, eventually I figured out it was from 'The Ghost & Mr. Chicken'! They used to show it every Halloween when I was a kid. I don't use the word masterpiece very often, but ...

Wow, so many great movies! You guys and girls are KILLING it this year! Mwahahaha!

17. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
Your basic Halloween mask company pagan ritual corporate conspiracy horror movie posing as a sequel to one of the most popular slashers of all time. What could possibly go wrong? To say that this movie is problematic is an understatement, it's amazing that it got greenlit at all. But I've always enjoyed this movie, despite its clumsy Scooby Doo plotline and revelations, or perhaps because of it. Forget the title, this movie is wholly original and stands on its own, the redheaded stepchild of the Halloween franchise that understandably confounded and angered fans of the first two. It's often hokey as all get out, and seems to exist in its own weird vaccuum, yet at the same time it really has the feel of Carpenter film despite the fact that it was directed by Tommy Lee Wallace. The strangeness is very unsettling and creepy, the violence is as brutal as it is unlikely; actually everything in this film is unlikely, but at the same time oddly prescient. Corporations finding a way into our children's brains via a video screen--sound familiar?

3.5 out of 5 stars.

23. Cold Storage -- New

"A man finds out that his believed to be dead mother is still living and unleashes a Machiavellian plan to acquire her wealth and property - by shutting her away in the basement."

This isn't a movie, and I know this is the Movie Marathon thread, but I wanted to step out of the coffin and try something different. Because, even though this is an old time radio haunt, it paints pictures in my mind just like a movie, so I am adding it to my list.

Decent little episode, love the sound effects and E.G. Marshall is always fun as the narrator. You know him from Creepshow as well as other varied performances in his career.

Youtube has many of these radio programs with big name stars voicing the parts. I definitely recommend sitting your kids for a listen. Any one of these spooky stories, with the lights out, would be a nice history lesson of days gone by.

Uggg, the big closeup of Marge Guttman -- yuck. I really like the movie! I've seen it more times than Halloween (1978), whatever that says for me. I've always liked John Carpenter's odd casting choices, and Tom Atkins as the determined alcoholic doctor was an odd choice to say the least. Hulking around unshaven in his rumpled members only jacket. Carpenter had planned to do a different Halloween themed film every year, but instead of launching a new franchise, the title sort of damned this movie. But it's certainly creepy. Carpenter's music adds a lot to it. And I love 'road trip' movies. :)

Hokiest moment? When Adkins, hands tied, manages to toss his Halloween mask several feet in the air so that it lands over a surveillance camera. Groan. Conal Cochran was a great character. What a prankster!

About Ellie:

Was their ever a real Ellie, or has she been a ... whatever they were, from the get go? Used to lure the doctor to Santa Mira? Or was Ellie copied & slapped together at the last minute? If so, what happen to real Ellie?

That Tom Atkins scene is priceless. My dad took me to see it when I was a kid. We both looked at each other and cracked up in disbelief at that moment.

Same here. I saw that one at the drive-in with my dad. We both cracked up when he tossed the mask onto the camera...HOKEY!!! Still a great movie as are all the Halloween movies.
