Hey, gals....a long time ago a friend of mine told me not to use talcum powder because it's linked to cervical cancer. I didn't question her.
So I stopped using it and switched to cornstarch baby powder.

I find it interesting that the first class-action lawsuits against makers of talc-based baby powder are now being filed. I saw the first TV ad for one a few days ago.

So avoid talc, kittens.
Yes, this has been out there a long time. Don't use talc.

I've used Tan Towels-they are sold at the nicest spa/salon in town and they have a pleasant smell and work very well!
shopping

A gradual tanning lotion that is extremely affordable (they might even carry it at Walmart) and smells AMAZING is Malibu Tan Hemp Bronzing Lotion...

Just wanted to say thanks, Morgan! I got the Hemp Bronzing Moisturizer, loved the way it worked AND no bad smell!
I also purchased the Hemp self-tanner in spray form, and like it even better. Easier to apply, dries in minutes, works just as well, smells just as good!

I'm pretty careful of chemicals, but it's dang difficult. Then I read 'Pandora's Lunchbox' and got even MORE paranoid about chemicals and artificial ingredients in food… Nothing is safe (and I'll never eat Subway's delicious-smelling bread again *sigh*).
What! (we can't even eat Subway bread now?) Are they hiding chemicals in there or somethin' nefarious?

I was wrong--they evacuated for a half mile:

Subway sandwiches

Subway has done an outstanding job of promoting itself as the “fresh” and healthy alternative to fast food, and to some extent, these accolades are deserved. Much of the chain’s food has fewer calories, fat and sodium than what you get at McDonald’s and the like. But unless you’re getting a sandwich with nothing but veggies, there’s very little about it that’s “fresh.” Even though Subway bakes its bread inside the stores, it’s definitely not Grandma’s homemade loaf going into those ovens.

The dough is produced in one of 10 large, industrial factories around the country, where it’s loaded up with additives like DATEM (short for diacetyl tartaric acid ester of mono- and diglycerides), sodium stearoyl lactylate, potassium iodate, ascorbic acid and azodicarbonamide. That last one — azodicarbonamide — is known to break down into a carcinogen when heated and is a chemical used in the production of foamed plastics. When a tanker truck carrying this substance overturned on a Chicago highway several years ago, city fire officials had to issue their highest hazmat alert and evacuate everyone up to a half mile downwind. Mmmmm, fresh!

I've never liked Subway. I find the sandwiches to be ersatz and the smell inside most stores to be off-putting.

I actually bought some of that Wonder Bread "Plus" (it is supposed to have more fibre). It is only because hubby was home and he does not like whole wheat. Well he is back up north so it's time to get some real bread again.

This is the store run by two brothers now since about 1937. They are kosher, being Jewish, but I go there for the whole wheat bagels

I've tried a hair product that wasn't great for me: a hair smoother by L'Oréal. It's applied when the hair is still wet, but my hair felt like there was residue on it, dull, and oddly like cloth material after I dried it. I used the recommended amount, too. I have thick, very fine hair, and I think this product was intended for someone with coarse hair, so I'll be passing it along to a gal pal of mine.

Damn. I wanted something that would make my hair smooth and shine it up, too.

Thanks for getting us back on track Lily Sawyer - my hair is thick but I find it gets dry and can look fuzzy if I don't use leave in conditioner. I have yet to find a really good one but I am still looking :inspect:

My mom & daughter swear by Moroccan oil. I can't seem to get the amount right-always feels greasy to me-but it really does give great shine to my daughter's thick, fine hair.

i LOVE this idea and i LOVE peppermint oil... i buy oils (peppermint, lemon and orange) from the local candy shoppe... a few drops in the bath is awesome. AND, if you have an old house like i do (1903) and you get the occasional spidery pest, a few drops of peppermint oil (mixed with some water in a spray bottle if you like) keeps them at bay. Pests can't abide peppermint because it messes with their nervous system. Smells great, works like a charm.

I knew I read this post somewhere... took me a while to find it again lol. I ordered some peppermint oil and got it in the mail and I'm anxious to see if it will keep the spiders out of the house. Thanks for the tip! We have BIG spiders! They're too big to fit under the door, I don't know how they're getting inside. One of them was on a pantry shelf this morning - scared me stupid! I put most everything in mason jars except cereal - it was sitting beside the cereal box :( I need more mason jars.

Or they will end up smelling really good :)
