For me, it's the cover version, hands down, no contest whatsoever. Love the heavy guitars and the whole harder sound of it, not even counting the things the singer's voice does to me  I'd never even listened to the original until just now when I looked it up

Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo - This is an interesting one because I'm not sure which one is considered the cover. The song was written by Rick Derringer while he was in Johnny Winter's band and he gave it to Johnny and Johnny recorded it in 1970. 3 years later, Rick Derringer recorded it and had a big hit with it but Johnny's version was first even though Derringer wrote it.

Having kids in sports, clubs or organizations means a lot of sitting around waiting. I usually either read or listen to music while I wait. With the iPhone, I’ll bring up Youtube and listen to some of my favorite songs. But often I like to listen to covers of people doing the hits. Some are great, many are not. From some live performances of a group on stage, to full production covers, to a 14 year old girl in front of a curtain on guitar, and much more, the blend and uniqueness can be quite entertaining and/or quite good.

A few that I like. Anybody have any other covers of songs they would like to share?

Here is one of the great garage band songs and a song that has been covered by almost everyone. I thought The Troggs did the original but apparently it's Chip Taylor's song. All I could find of Chip Taylor was a live version so here is Chip Taylor, then The Troggs and then the funniest version by Sam Kinison (what a set of pipes Sam had ;-D).

This one is hard for me because I never really enjoyed the song. Five Finger Death Punch brought it back to my attention. I like FFDP a lot, but I think the original is better.

Sammy Hagar's original

Rick Springfield's cover

I didn't know until recently that Sammy wrote this song. I definitely prefer his version to Rick's version. I do like Springfield's version as well but he is nowhere near the singer Sammy is.
