Somewhere over the rainbow
th

Hard to love a sports team every other city fears...
Now I know how Yankees fans have felt for all those years.
I've cheered for New England since the Grogan Super Bowl;
Now, I hear, most hate the Pats, according to a poll.

64% of you believe the NFL
Should disqualify the Pats from Glendale... What the hell?
Let's all take a breath here and, as Rodgers said, "Relax."
Even if we're guilty, it's a misdemeanor... Max!

Belichick and Brady said that they were unaware
Footballs used to beat the Colts were down 2 pounds of air.
Brady threw the balls they gave him and, once they were switched,
Pats scored 28 more points... Still, Chuck Pagano bitched.

Mr. S., my Yankees' fan, reminds me - there are perks.
Why care if the country thinks my Patriots are jerks?
I've decided I can learn to just embrace the hate.
It's the price that fans must pay for dynasties this great.
:tough:

What I'm not understanding, if the balls were underflated, they were used by both teams, yes? So there was no advantage to just one team. Both quarterbacks used the squishy balls. So all things remained equal.

No, DJ. Each team is required to bring a minimum of 12 balls to use while they are on offense. Patriots use their balls and the Colts have theirs. Crazy innit?

As a lifelong Pats fan I am just in awe over this whole thing. Quite frankly I don't know what to think.
I hope Belichick and Brady really didn't know what happened but sadly, people aren't going to believe them and who can prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they really didn't? No one. I don't get it. I wonder if this had been any other team would they be making such a fuss over it? If they did indeed have knowledge that this was happening, why bother?? They don't need to deflate flipping footballs to win. They're a good team. Hell, Blount Force Trauma practically won it by running! I want to know how the final invetsigation goes and what the conclusion is. I can only hope that it's unbiased. If they did do it then they deserve punishment. If they didn't then a whole lot of folks better eat some crow. I appreciate the players such as Andrew Luck stepping up and stating that the Pats would have beat them no matter what. Classy on his part and others who think the entire thing is ridiculous.
Unfortunately this will taint the SB whatever the outcome is. If they win, they'll get blamed for cheating. If they lose, it'll be said they can't win unless they cheat.
I'll still be wearing my Brady jersey and cheering them on Feb 1st but it might be a little less cheerful than it normally would.

Uh see now? Crazy... y'all should do it like Rugby:

"One Ball to rule them all, One Ball to find them,
One Ball to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

During the week, each QB is allowed to pick 12 balls for the game. He then can rub them down or condition them to his liking. 2 hours before game time, the balls are checked by the referee and put on the sidelines for use in the game. Something happen during the time the balls were cleared and they were used. (At least, they didn't used to think it was a big deal ;-D)

What makes me think that this deflation practice is fairly common is the fact that the officials, who handle the balls (insert joke) on every play, didn't say anything about it during the first half of the game. Tells me that they see this all the time and don't consider it a big deal.

Temperature variation, nature's deflator. Or maybe not. Maybe it was the Russians. Or the Colts sabotaged the balls. Or it was someone on the grassy knoll? Or Belichick, Sith Lord that he is, used the dark side of the Force to do it.

In all honesty, I don't really care. If anyone really thinks that a 2 pound difference in air pressure, not a 2 pound difference in the weight of the ball (as many media morons think) made any difference in the outcome of the game they are misinformed, stupid or have no idea what they are talking about. Never mind that the majority of the Pats points were scored after the balls were re-inflated at half time. If this were any other team (I'm looking at you Minnesota Vikings. Heat your footballs much?) this would be a non-issue.

BTW, I can't believe there are people saying this is worse than the bounty-gate scandal. Because we all know that altering air-pressure is so much worse than paying your players to deliberately injure opposing players :facepalm_smiley: Troy Aikman, pull your head out of your a**, please. While you're at it, help Mark Brunell do the same.

Want to dredge up Spygate? Fine. Came clean, paid the fine and moved on. People seem to forget that many former coaches stated at the time that this was common practice around the league. Does that make it OK? No, of course not. Should you still be getting beat up about it a decade later after you've paid the fine and gave up the draft pick? No.

Can we please focus on the game now? Should be a good one.

True enough. But in sports people never move on. People say all the time "I still haven't gotten over that..." twenty or thirty years after the result of a game. People will keep bringing up Spygate fifty years from now the way people still claim the Immaculate Reception wasn't a real catch. Although probably not with the same fervor since the Immaculate Reception is one of the most well known plays of all time and Spygate was an off the field thing. Still, as long as people remember they won't stop talking about it. And thanks to Twitter and social media, you just get to hear it a lot more often than you might otherwise.

But as long as there are people that dislike the Patriots there will be people to keep talking about it. Just go to any YouTube video featuring a Patriot play. :rugby:

I don't like the Patriots, but as a fan of SEC football, people talk terrible things all the time about the SEC because it's all they can grasp straws at. For a decade the SEC ruled and people claimed ESPN bias. This year the SEC lost a lot of Bowl Games and people consider it a sign of change for the better. I'm sure people still haven't gotten over the fact that two SEC teams once played in the National Championship game, but I don't care. Everyone had their shot. We got ours and won for a decade or close to it. Deal with it or find another sport to enjoy. ;;D

So I get what you are saying. But no one else has a team in the big game and we don't have anything else other to do than talk smack about the Patriots or Seahawks and the Patriots are an easy target. ;-D

I don't particularly like either team, but I like the Patriots less.....so I'm a Seattle fan for a day. No matter who wins, I'm counting on it being a good football game, and I'm gonna make all my favorite tailgating party foods and enjoy a few drinks along with the Superbowl.
