Dude. I never said you (or anybody else) were ramrodding a personal agenda, and I never said anything about a power trip. Please don't put words in my mouth.

My only concern is that if a select few make all the decisions, the whole board might not feel included, or even welcome. I'm just trying to consider everybody, that's all.

It doesn't have to be a quagmire. Post a list of places - there are spots across the country named in King books from Kansas and Nebraska to Texas, as well as Maine, Ohio and Florida - and give the masses a set time limit to vote on 'em. Whatever spot wins the vote is where the Kon takes place. Same thing with whether it's a summer Kon or a spring break Kon in the south. That way, everybody gets to voice an opinion.

I've said before that I'm cool with it wherever it happens. Doesn't matter to me. And if the rest of the board feels the same way, it's all good. Far be it from me to step on anybody's toes.

Here's the thing......getting people who are actually there at the Kon is a good way to go because they have shown up at an event. When it gets opened to everybody to vote there will be ALOT of people who vote on a place without really seriously considering attending.....know what I mean? I cannot even fathom how stressful it is trying to get this together. If the chosen location doesn't work for everyone that doesn't mean that someone else can't organize something somewhere else if they want to take on that burden. With the internet making information on anything easy to find and instant messaging making it easy to communicate it would be easy to say..."Here is where and when it is.Everyone fends for themselves on lodging and we'll meet up when we get there." No voting,no organizing just....this is how it is.Personally I ALWAYS have to have a plan for myself but thats on me.I guess what I'm saying is that is really nice that someone has taken on this burden for the group and with that there should be some understanding on our part that they should be able to make "executive decisions" ( Im not saying this has been done because I have no idea) if things start getting complicated.Nobody needs a bunch of stress over something they are doing for free.

I just think that a "If they don't like it, they can do their own thing" mentality is rather dismissive and less than welcoming.

I haven't been to a Kon yet because of financial restrictions and scheduling, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to be included in the process if I find that I can attend the 2018 Kon. Others on the board might feel the same way. Might not, but I think they should have the chance to say so. It's their board too, isn't it? If a board member reads "Like it or lump it" that's hardly all-inclusive.

The fact that the internet makes communication fast as the speed of light, it should be just as easy to say, "Hey, here are the places mentioned in King's books. What do you guys think?" Have a poll, settle on a place, and then start researching accommodations. I mean, if everybody has to make their own arrangements anyway, where's the burden?

If we only had a few months to plan, I could completely understand the need to streamline the process. But there are two years in between Kons. That should be plenty of time to set up a Kon. Especially such an informal one.

I wasn't aware that there was such a thing - cool! Why not have the con in Maine, though?
;)

Just sayin...I'm a native of Upstate NY/NE area, so it'd be a whole lot easier because I could work a home visit into the trip! :onthego:
....we did that back in 2013 old buddy, and it is on the docket of possibles again for the next Kon in 2018.....

I'm up for a jaunt to Maine if that's where the vote goes. But when it comes to organizing a southern sojourn, there's always spring break. Not the lurid college variety, but living with a teacher, I know that students usually get a week or two around Easter. I'd love to see folks down near my neck of the woods (New Orleans) one year or another. Or Florida. Spring is a fine time to be down south. Especially after a brutal northern winter.
:fox:
We have one always in April around the Patriots' Day (April 19) holiday but it's not always the same week as even others in the New England states.
