Yeah, if we do it down here, summer would probably be off the table. It's just too hot. A winter Kon instead? I know all your Northerners would think of that as a huge benefit in and of itself. The weather here can be quite amazing in those months. I try not to tell too many people about it. :)
Winter would be great for us Northerners but thinking of those with kids still in school, could be hard to coordinate school vacation schedules.

...that is the biggest reason I haven't brought it to the table as yet.....expense and time involved, getting the younger ones ready for the annual Fall pilgrimage into the chalk dusted corridors does not lend itself to a vacation at that point of the year....and with Northern Winter's so unpredictable anymore, that also adds to the issue.....

Absolutely! It's never any fun to spend your vacation in an airport because your flight has been canceled due to weather.

...I am going to broach the subject of our next venue for 2018, when we gather to break bread at this years event....destinations are going to be to return to Maine, or head to Florida......vote of the members in attendance will determine the locale.....it's the way it has to be, because to much planning is involved to throw it out on the Board for suggestions and votes....bogs down and becomes a headache...this is NO insult to any of the family here, just acknowledgement that time is of the essence even when the event is two years away...
How 'bout including the votes of members not in attendance as well? Just because we can't make it this year doesn't mean we shouldn't pitch in opinions for the next one, in case we can make it.

I'm up for a jaunt to Maine if that's where the vote goes. But when it comes to organizing a southern sojourn, there's always spring break. Not the lurid college variety, but living with a teacher, I know that students usually get a week or two around Easter. I'd love to see folks down near my neck of the woods (New Orleans) one year or another. Or Florida. Spring is a fine time to be down south. Especially after a brutal northern winter.

....I gave my reasoning in the post you replied to dear heart....
I understand m'dear. But the whole board is invited, right? So the whole board should have some say in where it gets held. I'm seeing a lot of people who might have gone to Kons past that can't come to this one, and there are many more of us that haven't been to any that might plan to go to the next one. I mean, we've got 2 years to decide.

Perhaps it would help if people in various areas volunteer to step up and make the arrangements should the Kon come to their neck of the woods. With help from the rest of us, of course, but it would help a great deal to have somebody familiar with the area running point.

I'm cool with whatever, wherever. I just think everybody deserves a voice, that's all.

...I will post the result of the vote at this Kon...and then everyone else that wishes to vote on a location may do so...but it HAS to be limited choices...there aren't that many King locales of import left...it's not as simple to do this as some may think...if it comes down to wrangling over geographics, I am out...
It doesn't have to be complicated, and it doesn't have to be a battle. I only suggest that the whole board should be in on it since the Kon is open to everybody. Not just the few that can manage the trip this year.

...I will not turn this into a contest of wills Lepp...I am well aware that the Kons are open to all Board members and I have also seen the nominating process fall into a quagmire of opinion...with no forward movement...this is NOT meant to belittle or condemn any of my friends here, I simply am reflecting on what I have observed...you have interjected essentially this same argument before when Kon planning came up...if you wish to lead us to the next event, I will gladly make way for you...but please remember, no one else has come to me with issues on how things have been handled...if they have had problems with how things have been done-they haven't stepped up to the microphone...I have tried my best to make these last two events work, and your help this year was invaluable-but I won't have anyone think I'm trying to ramrod a personal agenda or power trip through...the issue will be discussed at this Kon and I will make the result public when I return...nothing will be official...the Board's will be done...

Dude. I never said you (or anybody else) were ramrodding a personal agenda, and I never said anything about a power trip. Please don't put words in my mouth.

My only concern is that if a select few make all the decisions, the whole board might not feel included, or even welcome. I'm just trying to consider everybody, that's all.

It doesn't have to be a quagmire. Post a list of places - there are spots across the country named in King books from Kansas and Nebraska to Texas, as well as Maine, Ohio and Florida - and give the masses a set time limit to vote on 'em. Whatever spot wins the vote is where the Kon takes place. Same thing with whether it's a summer Kon or a spring break Kon in the south. That way, everybody gets to voice an opinion.

I've said before that I'm cool with it wherever it happens. Doesn't matter to me. And if the rest of the board feels the same way, it's all good. Far be it from me to step on anybody's toes.
