It took a while to grow on me, but it was very good, and still relevant.

The ending is gonna stick with me for a while. I mean, damn. Will they stay friends ??? I dunno. I want to say yes, but, really I dunno. The implication that high school friendships may not last has struck a chord with me. I do think Claire was a brat, she'd probably ditch the others.

I think it all goes back to how it was before. Sadly. The high school hierachy is way too strong to allow it to be otherwise.

Did you notice that Ally Sheedy was listening to Prince on her headphones???? ;-D Which I thought was really cool because Prince hadn't released Purple Rain yet so she was way ahead of her time...
Hey, then I was, too--lol. I had (and still have) Controversy, Dirty Mind, and 1999 (all before Purple Rain). I remember Controversy came with a poster of Prince in teeny tiny underpants. I hung it on my bedroom door, just to annoy my dad :) The Scorpions song Dynamite had the same effect, so I played it loud & often.

I still have all of my Prince albums from way back then, too! I really got into his music when he released 1999. That album is a classic! I listened to it over and over and studied what/how he did those songs. Amazing! I loved how he would strip down the songs to pretty much the bare minimum and make them last for 6, 7, 8 or 9 minutes! I knew he was going to be a big star the first time I heard How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?, which was on the 'B' side of the single for 1999. That song (HCYDCMA) just blew me away!! Then came Purple Rain and the rest is simply history!!!

The Judge. Good performance by Duvall, Downey Jr., D'Onofrio, the guy who plays the slow brother, and Thornton has never looked so sharp and distinguished.

We liked it quite a bit. It had its own temptation to push over where other movies would've gone, to go into hopeless schmaltz, but didn't. The courtroom scenes, with a couple exceptions that were no great deal, were reasonable to courtroom scenes (if a little overwrought, but this is drama, after all). Some of the drama was really quite powerful.

It stuck us till the end. Good flick.
