Was watchin GILDA again last night--you know, Rita Hayworth and the Glen Ford Erection. Anyhoo, it being summer, I've had my twelve year-old son here most of the week, and he comes in, sits down for a few minutes, finally expels one of those exaggerated, groaning sighs only teens seem capable of, and says, "how can you WATCH this old, BORING black-n-white stuff?"

Biting my tongue, I tried explaining my love of film noir, then gave up and said, "aw, yer just a kid. Wait till yer older, you'll get it."

But I knew it was bullsh*t. I mean, I've loved that kinda stuff since I was twelve. If he ain't diggin it by now, I doubt he will. Oh, he'll watch some Stooges, some Marx Brothers, that's it.

Whatever. Put the blame on Mame, boys.

Naw, there's hope. My boys were the same, but young adults now and I am very impressed with their range of viewing. From silent films on Netflix to foreign language and anything and everything.

I grew up listening to soundtracks from movie musicals my Dad used to play on his beloved stereo all of the time, and his classical music. Mom was a fan of literature, so I grew up reading some stuff, though my nature is more toward music than literature. Parents, know that your children are a product of who you are was what you believe in. For instance, if you love roses then your children will try to grow them, so help them learn how to succeed in doing so.

I woke up early, couldn't go back to sleep and ended up watching a movie titled Day Watch. Per IMDb.com...

A man who serves in the war between the forces of Light and Dark comes into possession of a device that can restore life to Moscow, which was nearly destroyed by an apocalyptic event.

It's one weird movie, fun to watch and full of unexpected stuff.

We watched Inherent Vice and I love this movie. I will add it to my collection. I have a thing for Joaquin Phoenix. I love the guy. There's one scene that made me fall over laughing . . .and in it, it's just Josh Brolin --another actor that I like, eating an ice cream while Phoenix watch. If you've seen the movie I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
