Beautiful.
May we add a little:

Definitely! I remember the first time I saw the revamped Star Trek--he caught my eye right away, and I was very sorry he bit it in the first few minutes. I actually liked him better in that than in the superhero movies--he's cartoonishly over-pumped for those. He also seems like a very nice guy.

Thou shalt not belittle the mighty Thunder God, lowly editoress, lest I be forced to smite thee back to the bookstalls from whence ye came!

Cannery Row (1982) Nick Nolte, Debra Winger

I've read the Steinbeck book and love it so there was probably no way I was going to completely like the movie since I carried my book bias into it.

The movie is well made, cast well and is likable and if you can separate it from the books (the movie is based on two books, Cannery Row and it's sequel, Sweet Thursday), you should like it. I liked the movie but I would have liked to have seen it done differently. Steinbeck's novel was comedic but it was still gritty and had a realistic depiction of skid row and depression era characters. In the movie, the skid row characters are glossy versions of the book characters. I would have liked to seen grittier depression era characters. Also, I would have preferred the movie was based just on one book, Cannery Row. Another annoyance was the narration. John Huston had a great voice and was a great narrator but there was just too much narration. Narration is tricky in movies and can be a great tool if used right. I think the right way to use it is to tell part of the story that's not on the screen. I think that the narration in Cannery Row too often described what I was watching instead of giving me new information. I did like the sets, though.

So my verdict is, good not great.

Byzantium-I've been wanting to see this since it first came out a couple of years ago, and it was worth the wait. A thoughtful, measured vampire flick that is much better than Neil Jordan's last foray into the genre, Interview With The Vampire. Thanks, Netflix!

Byzantium was very interesting, wasn't it? It might be my favorite vampire movie so far.

Watched Ride (2014) on Netflix last night. A "cerebral" film about an editor and her aspiring-writer son. I wanted to like it more than I actually did. Helen Hunt was good (she wrote the screenplay and directed as well). Some very good lines, but the story had too much disconnect for me. It seemed to get a lot of good reviews, though (on Netflix, not on IMDB).

Well, I just watched It's A Wonderful Life for the first time ever. I have seen bits and pieces of this over the years, but never the whole 3 hour thing. The last hour was great. The first 2 were unnecessary.

And WTH? We never
get to see Mr. Potter go to jail for KEEPING eight thousand dollars?!!!!!!! In-con-ceivvvvvable!

I will not watch this movie ever again.
