I kept thinking y'all were talking about Hush with Jessica Lange for the longest. Finally figured it out. I may have to watch it just to see how I feel about it. Recently I've watched:

Disturbia - mildly intense, I love to hate David Morse - he usually plays a fantastic jerk/crazy. I never watched St. Elsewhere though. Maybe he was different there. I'd give this movie a 6 - you kind of knew where it was going.

Lucy - I only watched because my sister said it was good and because Morgan Freeman was in it. It was interesting. Not fabulous, but good enough to entertain. There was a pointless car chase. I don't like car chases or fight scenes - I find them very boring and expensive to produce. Put the money somewhere else.

Dig the 1932 version directed by Erle C. Kenton, starring Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi, called Island of Lost Souls. If, that is, you're a good boy and haven't broken the law. Because, you know, *sigh* he who breaks the law must go to the house of pain.

What happens in the House of Pain? Why, you jump around! Jump around!

Sho nuff I got props.

Man, just had my arse handed to me by Karl Freund's 1935 horror classic Mad Love, based on The Hands of Orlac. The story is absurd, Peter Lorre's performance is blissfully over-the-top, but it's creepy gold. Colin Clive lookin pretty rough, already degenerated by alcoholism and tuberculosis, but delivers the goods. Ted Healy, of all people, shows up for comedy relief, and is just as funny without his Stooges. Did I mention Peter Lorre is over-the-top? This flick is nuts.

I must have missed The Apple Dumpling Gang or they didn't show it. I actually saw that at the theatre when I was a wee thing.

The Godless Girl (1929). Cecil B. DeMille's final silent flick, about an atheist girl and Christian boy who find love after a riot lands them in a nasty reform school for manslaughter. Sure, it's old, and there is no audible dialogue, but this was still DeMille, with huge sets, imaginative effects, and a cast of...well, if not thousands, surely hundreds. This was probably considered cutting edge for its time, but...meh, the story, and (more importantly) the performances, seem hackneyed and childish compared to what the Germans were up to by this time.

"I must have killed more men than Cecil B. DeMille."

The Invisible Man Returns (1940) The Kid picked again last night; he's really got a taste for the older films! This one was no where near as good as The Invisible Man, but it was still okay. Notable for starring a very young Vincent Price. He hadn't developed his trademark voice yet, but it was getting there.

It was the old mini-series from the 70's. A little dated but not too bad. Acting was good for TV at the time. Marilyn Burns from the original TCSM played Linda Kasbian. The guy that played Manson, Steve Railsback, was very good.

Steve Railsback was in one of my favorite movies, The Stunt Man. I saw The Stunt Man a while back and I think I posted something about it. This movie is excellent and deserves a better video release than the washed out looking dvd version with horrible sound that currently exists.
