Spotlight (2015) Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo

A biographical film about the Boston Globe reporters that uncovered the child sex abuse cases by Boston area Priests that ultimately uncovered a much wider scandal. It's a riveting movie that's a little like All The President's Men. It really took a Herculean effort to get through all of the layers of protection the church had to be able to get this story. It's a fascinating and important movie but when you get to the end, there's no other reaction you can have than why? There's just no explanation as to why the church went to such lengths to protect these monsters.

The movie is also important as it shows how vital print journalism is to us as it's fading into the sunset.

Very cool. It's available to stream on Netflix the 22nd. And I set a reminder on my cell. :)

Robin Hood (Disney, 1973) :) The day before, it was The Fantastic Mr. Fox--sort of going with a fox theme here :D We checked out a handful of movies today, but the only one I remember is The Invisible Man, and that will be our Friday night mom & son oldie.

Introduced my 14-year-old son to Mr. King by inviting him to watch The Shawshank Redemption and Misery with me. He absolutely loved them both! Now I'm looking to record The Green Mile.

BTW, after we watched Misery today, I was showing him my copy of the novel, and now am over 100 pages in and can't stop reading it (again)!

Last night was OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL. Better than I thought it would be! The worst parts were the scenes with just Mila Kunis and James Franco - they both mumbled so badly that I had to keep turning it up, just for their dialogue, then turning it down for everything else :p

My afternoon meeting got cancelled so I went to a nearby cineplex and saw the second Conjuring movie. If you liked the first one (which I consider it a modern-day classic), you will definitely like the second one. James Wan is impressing me more and more as a director, and I would love to see this young man take a stab at a Stephen King adaptation.

Alice Through The Looking Glass - eye-catching fantasy using some of Carroll's characters and many others
The Boss - amusing Melissa McCarthy comedy full of profanity, character less obnoxious than usual
Mother's Day - multi-thread light romantic drama with some amusing moments and several improbably happy endings

Extraordinary Tales--5 animated stories from E.A. Poe, each done in a different style of animation, and a weird framing story with a raven and statue (representing Poe and Death). Very well done, on the whole. "The Tell-Tale Heart" was interesting for the narration by Bela Lugosi! I particularly liked Guillermo Del Toro's narration of "The Pit and the Pendulum" (love his voice). Netflix

Revolutionary Road. Good Lord - if you want to feel married life with kids in the suburbs is a hopeless sham, and death would be preferable, this is your movie. I wish I hadn't watched - it depressed the hell out of me Thanks be to God, I have The Birdcage on DVR. I had to watch a little of that for some levity.
I thought both Leo and Kate did outstanding jobs in this movie but I'll never watch it again. Too, too depressing.

Agreed. It took me the longest time to figure out when I'd seen them act together. "What was it... hmmm, oh drat. I KNOW they've been in a movie together before." Sometime after the Paris plan fizzled, it hit me.

I think I'll watch this tonight! I get overwhelmed with choices on Netflix and Hulu and never watch anything.

I think this movie along with Shutter Island and What's Eating Gilbert Grape are some of his best performances. I watched this, too, last weekend.

Have you seen Leo in This Boy's Life? He shares the screen with Ellen Barkin and Robert DeNiro. It's his first 'big' movie and he steals it from Bob & Ellen! I saw this in the theater when it was first released and I knew Leo was going to be a major movie star! Based on Tobias Wolff's mesmerizing memoir.

Yes, I loved it. I read the memoir, too. I can't help but think of this movie everytime the mustard jar is empty (loosely speaking, I suppose it's squeeze bottles now) :).
