What about the deaths of, say, Elvis and John Lennon? Kurt Cobain? I wasn't there, but I'm curious if anyone here remembers it...
I remember John Lennons very clearly. But it wasn't a TV-moment i was a big beatles fan so it struck me hard. I remember Elvis passing but it didn't make close enough impact. Was only 12, hadn't really learned to appreciate him.

The Challenger explosion in 1986. I was in 7th grade and home sick from school that day. I was shocked when I saw that happen.

9/11- I was in work in a meeting when it happened. We went home early that day and I turned on the TV. It was surreal. It looked like a movie scene. Then we had to worry about my Dad (who was still on the BPD when it happened) having 12 hour mandatory shifts to guard potential targets in the city for a week or so afterwards.

The Red Sox winning the 2004 World Series. Never thought I'd see them win it once, let alone two more times in the next 10 years.

The announcement that the Feds finally brought in Whitey Bulger.

The announcement Osama Bin Laden had been killed.
