Wow! So many!

I was home from school for a snow day and was watching with the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded.

Watched the M*A*S*H finale as well.

Waco, Texas when the Branch-Davidian complex burned.

I watched the slo-mo white bronco chase, a good bit of the trial and the verdict. I remember crying because I couldn't believe they came back "Not Guilty".

Columbine.

News of Princess Di's death.

I've watched way more hurricane footage than needed because I have a house near the ocean and can't help myself.

I'm trying to think of some happy things, really. I did get my daughter up early and we watched Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding. Try to catch most Olympic opening ceremonies. Those are good moments. :sigh:

Yes to 9/11 being the worst.
Remember watching with my Mom the JFK funeral procession and her crying and me not understanding any of it.
Earthquake aftermaths in California- especially the one where the freeway pancaked on all of those cars and the Golden Gate Bridge broke.
Obama's first inauguration.
Bush Jr. on the warship pretending we were going to win the war in the middle east.
Bush Jr. at Ground Zero.
Clinton decrying 'I did NOT have sexual relations with that woman in that room.'
The landing and walking of the first man on the moon.
Watching the entire mini-series of 'Roots'.
The space shuttle exploding in mid-air. (RIP)

The first time I saw The Wizard Of Oz on television and getting mad at my Mom for her telling me that it was in COLOR (the first ten minutes are black-and-white) and then becoming totally entranced with it and then terrified by the flying monkeys and hiding behind a chair but peeking out because I had to SEE it!!

I was watching the news when Senator Hollings said this about the Marines in Lebanon:
“If they've been put there to fight, there are far too few. If they've been put there to be killed, there are far too many.”
It left me feeling shocked and electrified, and I knew even as a high schooler that it was a strong enough statement to be historical. And it was: it's in school textbooks now.

That's funny because it used to come on only over Thanksgiving and I would always be at my grandparents who only had a black and white TV. I didn't know it had parts in color till I was 8.

The news around the JFK assassination and the shooting of Oswald on-air.
LBJ announcing he wouldn't run in '68.
Moon landing and then the first moon walk.
The M*A*S*H episode in "real time" race-against-the-clock episode. Great television there.
The tribute to Jack Soo (Sergeant Yemana) in Barney Miller. Classiest TV tribute ever. I mean it.
The turkey episode of WKRP. I about soiled myself.
STTNG "The Measure of a Man" and "The Offspring." Great social statements and some well-written tragedy.
9/11, of course.
Election returns, particularly in 1972, 1984, and 2008.

That's off the cuff. There have to be others.

For news, 9/11 will stand out above everything else. Other notable events include the 2000 recount and OJ trial.

In terms of TV fiction, I don't think anything will top the Ozymandias episode of Breaking Bad. It was such a cultural and artistic achievement that transcended TV. Game of Thrones comes close at times.

Oh, I forgot a few sports things.

The 1980 "Miracle on Ice."
The horrible events of the Munich Olympics.
The Broncos beating Green Bay in the Superbowl, the Elway helicopter, the Mobley swat-down.
Uwe Krupp getting the goal in overtime for the Avs to win their first Stanley.
Knowing nothing about pro basketball, seeing Julius Erving play for the first time. I don't even remember the other team. I just remember looking at that and going, "What th'....."
Watching Bob Beamon do his jump, Olga Korbut do her flip, and Kurt Thomas do his flair for the first time. (In Beamon's case, the only time.)

The first one that springs to mind is 9/11 only because Mike (husband) was meant to be flying back to England from Canada and I had no idea where he was until late on in the evening when he finally managed to call. The relief was out of this world.

I agree with several already mentioned; Obama's speech revealing the death of Bin Laden was also memorable for me, as well as the documentary about it. There have also been some excellent documentaries about 9/11 shown on Channel 4 [UK] - 102 Minutes that Changed America [footage people made as it happened] and The Falling Man stand out for me; both well-made, sensitive, frank and haunting.

The recent Royal wedding was lovely; I had extra reason to watch as the mister was working security, so very exciting  And they genuinely seem like a lovely, well-suited couple.

A fictional, hilarious moment that stands out for me is from the Halloween episode of Family Guy - Pink Brian xD

The murder of our Foreign Minister Anna Lindh in 2004. A mad man jumped on her in a store and put a knife through her heart.
9/11
when Thomas Ravelli saved that penalty and Sweden won the Bronzemedals in 1994 soccer-world championship in USA
When the SpaceShuttle exploded
When Niklas Lidström scored that goal against Finland in the Olympic Final of 2006 assisted by Peter Forsberg and Mats Sundin.
When Sweden turned a 1-5 deficit to victory with 6-5 against Finland led by a magic Peter Forsberg.
When Charlotte Kalla led the Swedish team to Olympic gold 2014 in Sotji, Russia in the ladies relay skiing.
The first inauguration speech by Barack Obama (Yes we can) Thought that was a very good speech.
( i think sports event often make memorable tv-memories, perhaps because of the drama that is built in.)

We who are Avalanche fans appreciate the presence of Peter the Great on our team. He was an incredible player.

I had forgotten that one, and yes, memorable. There were rumors beforehand, but when he gave the speech, somber and complimentary to the troops who had carried it out, it was a long-awaited fist pump since 9/11.

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
I remember waking up in the afternoon (i've never had a proper sleep pattern outside of school term times) at around 2 o'clock UK time on 9/11, seeing it on tv and telling my mum to put the telly on for it.

Apart from that, nothing really. I was already watching the telly when diana died, and had no interest in watching her funeral, just like I had no interest in watching William and Kate's wedding.

I here most major stories from my mum reading facebook, then I check the REAL internet to see if they are true, including the sad deaths of Ryan Dunn, Rik mayal, and robin Williams. And the fake deaths of Morgan Freeman (who has died about 4 or 5 times apparently) and at new year, UK actor Danny dyer suffered a Facebook death.

The assassination attempt on President Reagan. The news coverage broke in over the cartoons I was watching, and I sat there for the next few hours trying to comprehend all of it.

The Miracle on Ice hockey game. One of the most exciting sports moments of all time and I've not even a hockey fan, Al Michaels play by play was perfect.

The Space Shuttle Challenger exploding. My science teacher always brought a TV into his classroom so we could watch the launches. I'd never experienced such a feeling of sadness and disbelief coming from so many people at once in the same room. It was eerie.

9/11/01. Woke up early that morning and was fixing myself breakfast when the TV coverage started. Got a call around 10am advising to report to the PD asap, it was all hands on deck for the next 48 hours. I remember watching a pair of F-16 Falcons circling over our city a few times that day, fully armed with missiles under their wings, which was surreal.

Osama Bin Laden being taken out. I have never been prouder of our special forces. You can run and hide but in the end, they'll take care of business.
