An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle.

She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, “I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!”. The four men didn't wait for a second threat. They got out and ran like mad.

The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver’s seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition.

She tried and tried, and then she realized why. It was for the same reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee and two 12-packs of beer in the front seat. A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down.

She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake.

The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun.

No charges were filed.

The moral of the story?

If you’re going to have a senior moment… make it memorable.

The cakes are out of the oven and cooling. That painstaking prep time I described before... I neglected to mention that it's just as tedious coloring the frosting and stuffing that into piping bags, too. Won't have enough piping bags, so I'm eyeballing a ziplock baggie. Snip the corner off, and we'll see what happens. The outside might be done with just three colors repeated if the baggies don't work.

We'll know in about an hour if the whole thing worked.

And now the pacing begins. The frosting was too thin. I had to put the piping bags in the freezer to cool them down, thicken them up, otherwise, I can't frost this thing.

The cakes came out great, at least from the outside. I've got them leveled and stacked with plain white frosting in the middle. Now all I can do is wait and HOPE the frosting in the piping bags cools off so I can pipe rings of frosting around the outside of the cake, scrape it level and put leopard spots on it.

Oh. And did i mention that my daughter goes on lunch in 20 minutes? NO PRESSURE!

Okay. Saga of the hideous neon leopard-print cake.
You guys got the blow-by-blow as it was happening, so here are the photos to go along with it.
Mixed the batter first:

Got the food color ready and mixed in just under half a cup of batter for each color:
20150802_192133-e1438647689803.jpg
20150802_192304-e1438647681922.jpg

Spread a thin layer of batter on the bottom. Drew the black lines, covered the black lines with color, then drew another black line over top of that.
The squiggles don't matter because when you cut it, it's a cross-section:
20150802_201328-e1438647662584.jpg

Filled in the rest of the white batter, baked and cooled:
20150803_142305-e1438647671725.jpg
20150803_142353-e1438647652787.jpg

Loaded up piping bags with colored frosting for the outside.
Ran out of piping bags, but guess what? Snipping the corner off of a ziplock baggie works in a pinch!
20150803_162049-e1438647642936.jpg

Et, voila!

20150803_172207-e1438647619971.jpg

Not exactly the same, but not bad for a first effort.
(The black from the spots on top dragged down when I cut it, but that black color was easily 'erased' with the edge of a spoon, with no cake loss at all).
:fox:
And my daughter, thoroughly embarrassed and delighted that I showed up with such a huge honking piece of neon-leopard print birthday cake at her work.

Note to anybody that thinks of trying this: after you color the frosting and put it in piping bags, throw those bad boys in the freezer for a few minutes to cool off. Otherwise, the frosting will be too warm and runny. Cool 'em down first and thicken them up, and you'll be able to frost the outside without the slippage and scrapes that you see on mine.
;)

Very nice cake! You're a thoughtful mama :)
Way to go, Lepp. Great looking cake.
Thankee. Too kind.

I'd never seen that tradition before we moved down here. People pin a dollar on you when it's your birthday. That shows everybody that it's your birthday. Then they pin a dollar on you, too. Every little bit helps.
