Family Memorial Day picnic is over and I get to lay down and watch some baseball. Spent all of Friday, Saturday and this morning getting ready. Mowed the lawn with the tractor, did the mulching, fixed the netting on the trampoline, opened the pool, set up the zip line, redid the horseshoe pits, etc. First picnic of the year is always so much work. Couple of veterans were here and we texted my wife's cousin who just started boot camp in the navy after finishing college and becoming a dentist. She went in as an officer. She really wished she could be with us. She said coming up to visit us from the city held her most happy and precious childhood memories. She told us the navy had to special order her combat boots because the didn't make them that small. That made me laugh. It only seemed like yesterday she was swimming in our pool looking for a spider to prove to me how gigantic it was. When she found it, it was a tiny little thing. It has been a joke between us ever since.

We had lots to eat. Too much as usual. Hot dogs, hamburgers, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, halupki, shrimp on the barbie, lasagna, taco salad, home made baked beans loaded with bacon, the best potato salad on earth, home made coleslaw, deviled eggs, veggies, fruit, a few other things and about six desserts. Almost no food is left and we've been wiped out of our Tupperware.

All in all a good day and I enjoyed the stories from the vets.

We had a Polish woman make this for us and then give my mom the recipe. They are very good.
Did your mom wear a babushka? If not, this polish woman committed the mortal sin of passing on the secret of good halupki to someone unworthy. My wife still hasn't been given the secret recipe. Just vague descriptions of the recipe so far. And she is fearful it will end with her aunt as my wife is the last in her immediate family who would be willing to make it. The same happened with my mom's liver filling. Lost to the ages. Never to be enjoyed again. :(

Okinawa itself is so rich in history, especially world war history :D
It definitely is! My dad was stationed there when I was in jr high and the first year of high school, and my dad took us to all the historical monuments, both Japanese and American. He thought we should see it all, both points of view. Nakagusku (sp.?) Castle and the suicide cliffs were sobering, and the peace park lovely.

it's Nakagusuku(中城城跡) Castle :D the legendary castle there. Mom worked in Tokyo, Japan when i was still a kiddo and she really want me to be with her to see all historical landmarks in all islands of Japan.

I can agree that Japanese is History-rich country, and their horror stories really drove me in there

I stumbled into Elmo's world at television so i watching it. Aaahhhh i miss my childhood days lol

Just finished watching Nazi Megastructures in NatGeo
I was amazed of Japanese's underground fortress at Okinawa island, it was smart and good tactic and bit effective i see. But still did not provide full protection to the shooters and soldiers, but can provide escape route. That was amazing for me

I think I missed that episode of Elmo's World.

Hey DiO'Bolic !

Sounds like y'all had a blast. Your parties sound awesome but next time save me some food.

Hope you get some rest today.
