Death on Lake Superior?
latest

Nevada Barr...A Superior Death...saw it the last time I was book-sniffing at Book World. Saw the cover, recalled a news article about it, set on Isle Royale so on so forth. First from Barr for me. The protagonist isn't very likable so I'm curious to see where this one goes. Someone ate their wife. There was a Charlie Mott who starved on the island, his Indian wife survived...left there July until whenever, no supply boat came.

Finished According to Mary Magdalen by Marianne Fredriksson. A swedish author. It is about Mary and her history. Her meetings with Jesus is just a small part because her background as a girl and what happened to her after Jesus is also here. There is also some discussions between her and Paul and Peter about what Jesus really meant, not so much about what he said. Not surprisingly they do not exactly agree. Also portraits of other women that followed Jesus. It is a good novel which focuses on Mary ,not Jesus, and brings to life a person that obviously was important but which the early church downsized abit. This is not history, it is a novel and fiction straight through although some of the persons are historical.

Perhaps should be in another thread, but - did you see the movie Precious? I read the book the movie was based on (Push by Sapphire) a few years ago and just recently recorded Precious from Movie Channel, but have not watched it yet.
No, I haven't seen that movie. I don't think I can handle it- I don't and/or can't watch something where a child is abused/battered. It makes my blood pressure shoot up way too high. Just seeing little snippets here and there when it was first released got me upset enough.

Okay - guess I never thought about that aspect. The movie got 3 or 3 1/2 stars I believe, so I will let you know if I liked it or not. Thanks!
Andy is quite sensitive, too, so maybe he will find it hard to watch. He cried at the end of "In Her Shoes" which I think surprised him as much as me :flustered:

'Katie' was good, too!
Had Amazon down load both titles to my tab and started The Elementals yesterday; it grabbed me from the get go. It is quite the story and I have just barely gotten started! Thanks again for these titles.

Has anyone read the book done by McDowell and Tabitha King? I understand this was done just before he passed away.

I finished I Am Pilgrim, by Terry Hayes. I was genuinely surprised by this novel. It has all the ingredients found in thrillers but thankfully few clichés. The protagonists are drawn with unusual depth, not your usual Tom Cruise cardboard cut out or the faceless mid-east zealot bent on world domination. And the action is driven by dogged investigational techniques with not as much as a car chase or massive explosions to be found. At 800 pages one would be afraid of lagging interest, but it's a complex tale told very well. It reminded me of when I first found Robert Ludlum.

You're referring to Candles Burning. Tabby was asked a few years after Michael's death to finish it. If I remember correctly about 1/2 was written and then Tabby had notes or a vague outline that Michael had left and she finished it. It is a good read but it isn't a 'Michael McDowell' book, meaning it has its own 'voice'.
