Yep, wrap around porch would also be great. No hidden rooms, though--I have a recurring dream about those, and nothing good ever comes of them *shudder*

Hi. I want to know! If you feel comfortable sharing I'd like to know about the hidden rooms, recurring dream and nothing good coming from them.
(I'm weird but you know that already. Ha!)

no American car would ever even be allowed in the driveway!

Sacrilege!

My husband gave me a 1970 Thunderbird with a 429 Thunder Jet engine for my birthday. She was soooo cool.

No biggie :) The dream always starts out normal, in an average house, but then it turns out that there is a passageway in the house that leads to rooms that aren't apparent. It's really a different house, with sprawling rooms decorated (usually) in a very 'opulent hunting lodge' sort of way. The front rooms, a living room and a study, aren't bad, but there are three or four bedrooms at the end of a hall, and those freak me out entirely. The feeling of dread gets worse as you move further from the main rooms. I know something BAD is in there, and no WAY do I want to stay in them for any length of time, particularly if I'm alone. Dream always ends with me fleeing in absolute, brain melting terror, trying to make it to the door to the 'normal' house, but that door is up high, and the passageway so small that it's nearly impossible to get through. Sometimes I make it... sometimes I wake up trying to scream and slapping at The Man.

Now I probably doomed myself to a repeat tonight--lol.

An odd, labyrynthine house with so many rooms that you discover rooms you didn't know you had, regularly. Hidden treasures and hidden alcoves. Wooden floors, vaulted ceilings with an equal amount of cramped, cozy reading nooks. Several floor to ceiling windows to let in natural light. Stained glass windows around doors and transoms. Copper pipes and fixtures. Moon roof in bedroom. A tree lined brick patio to welcome friends, have long dinners and many laughs.

Yep, wrap around porch would also be great. No hidden rooms, though--I have a recurring dream about those, and nothing good ever comes of them *shudder*

I also have dreams about a house with undiscovered rooms and doorways that lead to different rooms each time you pass through them. I blaim Heinlein's story And He Built a Crooked House but my ability to get lost easily might also be partly to blaime lol.

In Wyoming, in the middle of about 1000 acres, you'd only see about 10% of the real house because the real house would be underground. There would be a outdoor 1000 yard shooting range, indoor pool, and a very large walk in type armory somewhere below ground. There would also be many surveillance cameras and a huge library. I think that would about do it..

Wow! That's really fascinating! I have recurring "house" dreams, too, so your post piqued my interest. In mine, there is the house we live in, but there's also this "other" house that we supposedly bought but there was complications with the sale so it's been kind of just sitting there for years in limbo, and I always wonder why we can't just straighten everything out and move there already. It's a big house that needs major renovations, with lots of rooms full of old junk, and whenever I explore, there is also a sense of dread. But there are so many bathrooms and bedrooms that we could use! It's maddening.

Anyway, I was just thinking about this last night as I hooked up our dumb portable dishwasher to the sink. I would love a much bigger kitchen with a large sink. By the time I finish a bout of washing dishes by hand, there is always so much water on the floor that it looks like we're going down on the Titanic. There's just no neat way to rinse off the bigger things. A built-in dishwasher would be amazing.

-Lots more electrical outlets (our house was built in 1940, so there aren't many)

-More than one bathroom!

-Definitely with everyone about the big porch with a swing--there's nothing I like better on summer nights than just sitting on the porch and reading or staring off into space. We have a small one, but it's basically about to collapse, lol.

-Several spare rooms. I need one for my art studio, husband needs his own gaming room (ideally as far away as possible from said art studio :heheh:) and at least one more for the sole purpose of displaying collectibles (aka, my toys). Heck, the cats can have a room of their own, too.

-Big windows are a must.

-Two-car garage, especially if said dream house is still in New England.

-An attic in which you can go up and walk around, just because I've always wanted one.

-A big yard, and very distant neighbors.

We had a portable dishwasher for years :) I finally decided it's easier to just wash em by hand. Our house is older, too (once two different houses--the lower floor is older--mid 40s--no idea about the upper, but they were put together in 1952). We use every inch, too. It would be nice to have my library/writing room, but I can wait until a kid moves out--lol. This sucker is nearly paid off, and I do NOT want to get into another house payment.

So... big yard and distant neighbors, huh? Sounds like someone has PLANS ;)

That was scary  and would be cool if you weren't experiencing it. Have mercy.
