Fan Reviews of The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass Posted By: OddThomas June 29th, 2012 8:05:36 am EDT I've read nigh on all the Dark Tower series and they're magnificent :) The wordplay is insanely well written and the prose is wonderful. the story is deeply engaging and wrought with emotion. I really wasn't expecting this book to be, for the most part, a story within a story, but the way King does it is extraordinary. To anyone who reads King but hasn't gotten to the dark tower novels yet: they should be the first priority on your list. I'm going to continue reading now, I'm 250 pages into the fifth one now, it's shaping up to be another fantastic one, but totally different. I have read just about every book he has written and I can say without hesitation this is one of his finest. The reader is competely and intensely acquainted with Roland's mind and motivation as the heartbreaking story of his love for Susan Delgado is told by the gunslinger. I cried, laughed and had my heart race. AMAZING! Roland's past is an amazing story. I believe that the dark tower series is a success because, in a way, we are all searching for our own dark tower...so we can relate. I am visually handicapped and really wanted the Kindle version so I could avoid using magnifying glasses on the printed version my family already owns. Is there a way to get a Kindle copy in Canada? At first when Roland sacrificed Jake in "The Gunslinger" for his persuit of The Dark Tower I was like, thats messed up, letting a kid die! But after reading this (and "The Wastelands", in which he express's genuine remorse for that choice) I have come to sympathize with Roland. Here's my reasoning... if he had stopped to save Jake then all pain and people that he lost along the way would have been for nothing. But even if he were to ignore all of that his world and quite possibly all worlds are on the brink of destruction. If he had stopped to save Jake he would have lost his chance to stop said destruction. But back to this installment, I loved the cowboy vs rustler, with a post apocalyptic, knights on a mission feel of this book. This installment is my favorite of the series so far. My book goes from 336 to 305-336 a second time, and picks back up on page 369!?!?! I've lost a large part of the book here, and I'm very disappointed. I'm going to have to go to the library and read that section there. Now I've got nothing to read for the rest of the night. Sad, sad day. Personally, I wasn't so crazy about this one, but I read it to understand the Dark Tower better (and it really does explain a lot about Roland and the Tower.) Posted By: El Grogg November 20th, 2008 6:01:16 pm EST the dark tower is my all time favourite work of fiction, even more gripping, in my opinion, than lord of the rings. high praise indeed, but worthy i feel. wizard and glass was bought for me on its release and as a result it was the first of the dark tower books that i read. for me it is the best. i have been alarmed to hear talk of the dark tower being made into a series of movies or a series for tv. i believe this would be a very bad move. the dark tower is so wonderfully complex and in parts, deeply obscure. i really do not believe it could translate to screen without seeming convoluted and losing so much of its magic. i do however think that wizard and glass would make a wonderful movie in its own right, solely chronicling rolands adventures in mejis. sam elliot would make a perfect eldred jonas. how i would love to see that |
