Decided to wait on 10 Cloverfield Lane and introduced LilMan to Carpenter's The Thing instead. I haven't watched that in probably a decade, and I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time I was it when it was released :) He liked it, too--bonus!

10 Cloverfield Lane is very good. John Goodman steals the show.

Just started watching An American in Paris. Not sure why I've never watched this as Singin' in the Rain is one of my favorites.

I'm wondering--why does watching Gene Kelly sing and dance make me tear up? I think it's some sort of mixture of childhood nostalgia, awe of his talent, and sadness that he's not here anymore.

Watched one with Charlize Theron called "The North Country" (2005) , based on a true story

- it is about women employed by a mine in Minnesota back in the 70s and 80s and the harassment they undergo

Glad to see that they finally won their class action suit - what those men did was pretty bad

Woody Harrelson is in it as well, with Sissy Spacek and Frances McDormand

Based on a book called "Class Action the Landmark Case that Changed Sexual Harassment Law"

A good one, yep. Me, I dig seeing Leslie Caron dance.

Ever seen Xanadu, with Gene Kelly dancing alonside Olivia Newton John?

Years ago so I don't remember that much about it. I was probably more focused on ONJ, floating around on the Grease cloud that obsessed my youth. Mayhap time for a rewatch.

And Leslie Caron, yessss.

Watching Baryshnikov dance does the same to me. Not so much childhood for me, but I think it's about seeing someone doing something so exquisitely--it's almost like pride that a human can do the wonderful things. Even if it's not me, SOMEONE is soaring higher than most people even dream of going.

Yes.....it is a pride in the human ability to be so good at something, to have worked so hard and to be so talented...then to be right here in front of me on the screen so I'm witness to it. You nailed it, Autumn.

And I think there's a sadness that all that just left the earth when that person died. We work so hard to become who we are, then...gone.
