Our school district canceled today and also tomorrow, so the kids aren't complaining!

I tried to take our dog Miska out for a walk. It was about -1 but the windchill was likely in the negative teens. Anyway, I bundled up under several layers and I figured Miska would be okay because generally she loves the snow and cold, and after all she's an American Eskimo and covered in white fluff. Boy, was I wrong. All she did was pee in the yard and refuse to go any further. Fine, I got the mail and went back inside, where I've stayed all day!

Ms Mod and I have become best of friends... Not really, but since Hell has frozen over I figured 'what the heck' :)
Not where I am! Currently 50 degrees on its way to 74. There is a cold front coming in over the weekend, though, and it will be going down to the mid to high 60s for the rest of the time I'm here. brrrrrrrrrr :p

:biggrin2: I'd say I'm sorry, but, you know..... ;)
Yeah, I know. :)

After I got home last evening I asked the wife and youngest daughter how much gas they had in their cars. I always tell them you should never have less than a quarter tank in very cold weather because condensation can build up in the tank and cause the fuel lines to freeze. The wife said a quarter tank and the kid said just above empty. Nobody ever listens to me! So in –5 degree temps and the wind howling, making it feel like –gazillion degrees, I go get them both gas. The wind was so bad parts of the road I live on were one lane only due to drifting snow. Both fill ups I had my one glove off for about 2 minutes each time. But it took the rest of the night to get the pain in the hand go away. Tell me more about Scottsdale, AZ.

Have kicked myself more than once for waiting to fill up and then having to do it in the minus zero and windchill factor days. Nope, I don't miss that at all. Unfortunately, there will be lots of winter still in store once I'm back in New England.

It's great here in Scottsdale! People are complaining about it being so cold as apparently it has been unseasonably cold for this time of year; most of the month has been in the 60s or low 70s. Looking at the extended forecast, the day's low in Scottsdale will be twice what the day's high will be when I arrive back in Maine. The balcony for my condo is shaded so I have had to wear a sweater at times but in the sun it's a lot warmer. Even though it was "only" in the mid-60s in Sedona on Monday, going hiking with just a tee shirt and jeans felt great and I got to see scenery like this so no major complaints from me.

You've got me on that one. Lots of palm trees but no sandy, tropical beaches.
In my younger days I was a very good windsurfer, even had my own board (although I sucked at regular surfing when I tried it in Florida and Hawaii). If I escape to somewhere warm I'd like to get back into windsurfing. Can you think of anything more sexy than and old guy in speedos jumping the waves on a windsurfer? ;):)

I did a mental "whaaa? and then chuckled" when the weaving instructor mentioned she'd been walking to the beach over the weekend. Scottsdale has canals and what they call a lake (looked more like a big pond to me). I was thinking more in terms of ocean beach as a comparison to Tahiti, but yes, lots of places to swim with beaches around the state. It really has a very diverse geography, not just desert landscape.
