The Nashville event went pretty well. Downtown area was wild with the country music awards and typical weekend crowds in 95 degree heat. A real circus with dogs jumping into water tanks on one corner, mobs of girls in cowboy boots, lots of drinking, country music booming. Ann Patchett who owns the book store sponsoring the King event gave the best instructions for the Q&As that I've ever heard - keep it short, ask a question, and don't be a crazy person. Alas futile advice. King gave his typical speech with some variation about his experiences playing in a band due to the Ryman setting. He mentioned finishing up a book with (I think Owen) set in a WVA women's prison. The church pews that serve as seats in the Ryman were hard as bricks. Books were handed out on the way out the door. I got two signed copies from the three in my party.

Louisville doesn't have assigned seats. We saw Sai King in Kansas City during the Revival tour and we got there about a half hour before and were way in the back. It's in the 90's in Louisville today, so just trying to strike a happy medium between waiting in the heat and not being in the back row.

Let us know how it all goes!

Ours is a free for all, too. People here are insane--they find it perfectly reasonable to camp out for the opening of a donut shop or chicken sandwich place--so my daughter and I are going at least 3 hours early to check out the line. I refuse to be in the very back, as it's a big venue and sold out.

Anyone going to the Reno event next Saturday?

I'm very concerned with how Barnes and Noble is planning the speaking event. Really wish an Independent bookstore got the venue.

The event is going to be held at the store itself and 400 of us that got confirmed signed books will need to show up before 8 am to get our books and wait until Stephen speaks at 1pm.

B&N isn't planning on shutting the store down to the public for the time of the event either, so there won't be enough room for everyone to have seats.

Sounds like it's going to be an invitation for chaos.

Sounds very short sighted.

Agreed. Reading over their post about it on the local Reno B&N facebook page, it sounds like they didn't think to plan for much at all. Seems like they planned for a book signing and not a large speaking event.

I hope they come to their whits, and shut down the store for the afternoon for the event.
Maybe you can send the store an email, or speak to the manager by phone/person about your concerns. Maybe they just don't get it. I mean, I don't know how it happens, but in today's world, some people don't realize what a rock star Steve is and don't plan appropriately.

Yeah, I'm kind of at a loss for words on how they're handling this.
They seem to be just winging it. Seems many people are contacting the store.
I'd imagine the issue is that they don't want to shut down the business for the few hours needed for the event.

That sound more than just chaos. Insanity- in this day and age. Not fair to the 400 who have the confirmed seats. Is there is set off- private- part for those and SK during the actual event?
Can you image how many will "wander" about, possibly disrupting the event?
Will hope for positives and this gets settled before the event.
